A 21-year-old man suffering from stab wounds has died after a taxi driver found him on a Hamilton sidewalk early Sunday morning In a news release, police say the man was found in the area of Main Street West near Frid Street at about 2:30 a.m. Speaking to reporters at the scene, Det. Staff Sgt. Lisa Chambers said the man was taken to hospital, where he “succumbed to his injuries.” Chambers explained that the investigation is “still very early,” with officers continuing to collect video footage and speak with witnesses. Police have not yet identified a suspect and no weapon has been recovered. Investigators believe the victim was involved in an altercation before the stabbing, likely in a nearby parking lot. However, Chambers noted that police do not believe the stabbing took place there. Instead, they believe it happened on the sidewalk where the victim was found. She said the altercation likely occurred 10 to 15 minutes before the victim was found. Because of the late hour, Chambers said there were not many witnesses or video recordings available to investigators. “Those people know that they were involved,” Chambers said, encouraging them to “do the right thing and to turn themselves in.” This is the city’s ninth homicide of the year. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the altercation or has information about the investigation to contact Detective Alex Buck at 905-546-4123. Investigators are also asking anyone who travelled through the area between 2 a.m. and 2:45 a.m. to review any dashcam or video footage that could assist them with the investigation.
