A former Durham police officer is facing an additional charge of sexual assault in connection with allegations involving a new victim that occurred between 1999 and 2009. Special Investigations Unit (SIU) Director Joseph Martino announced Thursday that there are reasonable grounds to believe that Kevin Seamons committed a criminal offence for his alleged conduct from May 1999 to December 2009. The SIU did not release any details about the allegations and said it would not provide further comment as the matter is now before courts. In May, the SIU charged Seamons with several offences, including sexual assault and assault with weapon, following allegations involving a young girl back in 2003. The SIU also offered no details about their investigation. However, according to documents from the Ontario Civilian Commission on Police Services in 2006 related to disciplinary proceedings against Seamons, the unnamed victim was 17 years old. At the time of the investigation, “Constable Seamons was suspended from duty, and his locker was searched. Nine photographs of a pornographic nature were found, as well as three police batons,” the documents stated. At the time, the appeal was dismissed. The SIU relaunched their investigation into the 2003 allegations in 2024 after it said the victim came forward with new information. Seamons was arrested in Alberta and after being charged, was released on several conditions, which include not contacting the complainant directly or indirectly.
