This Toronto shop serves up vegan ice cream that’s bound to fool dairy-lovers

An ice cream parlour in Toronto’s Dundas West neighbourhood is serving up plant-based treats that will fool the uninitiated.

Those craving dairy might not be able to tell that the treats at Honey’s Ice Cream are 100 per cent vegan.

With inventive flavours like cream egg and blueberry pancakes, the cool treats aren’t limited only to scoops of ice cream. They also serve ice cream sandwiches, with cookies made in-house, ice cream pies and pints to take home.

Honey’s owner Ashley Wittig Horne told CP24’s Bill Coulter during a recent On the Menu segment that not only are they an ice cream parlour, but they’re also a “neighbourhood hub” with a superior product.

“I think it’s the best ice cream in Toronto,” she said. “But it’s absolutely the best dairy free ice cream.”

Using a base of either coconut or cashew, the ice cream has a smooth, creamy texture that’s impossible to distinguish from milk-based products, Horne says.

For those looking for variety, Honey’s introduces new flavours every month. Some past flavours have included dates, wedding cake and chocolate orange. Once a year, Honey’s hosts a raffle to raise money for the Parkdale Food Bank. The winner gets to dream up a new flavour, along with free scoops and pints of ice cream.

Along with its location at 1448 Dundas Street West, Honey’s also operates a location at 1026 Queen Street East in Leslieville.
