GTA customers say they paid in advance for snow removal and now ‘feel cheated’ after company stopped providing service

CTV News has been getting complaints that one company collected payments for snow removal in advance and then failed to show up after the snow fell.

Shovelling snow can be hard work, which is why many seniors or people with mobility issues rely on snow removal services.

CTV News has received several complaints from families in the Greater Toronto Area who paid in advance for snow removal services but say after one visit in December, the company is no longer returning to clear driveways and sidewalks.

The company, which goes by Snow Pros, has a Woodbridge address and advertises online and through social media. The company told customers last fall they could get a discount if they paid in advance for the 2025-2026 winter snow season.

Four customers contacted CTV News to say they paid in advance and then had their calls and emails ignored. There appear to be many others who signed up with the service and did not get what they paid for.

“We have had the more recent snowfall and still nobody showed up,” said Eve of Toronto, who asked that we just use her first name.

Eve lives with her mother and said as she is sometimes away on business, she wanted a snow removal service to keep the driveway clear so her mother would not have to worry about shovelling the driveway.

In October she was online when she found the company Snow Pros, and she was told if she paid in advance, she would get a discount on the winter season.

Eve gave the company $1,200 and while the company did come once when it snowed in December, it hasn’t been back since.

“My property was not cleared at all. At this point I feel they have taken the money, and they are not a legitimate business and they’re not showing up,” said Eve.

Pankaj and Ritu Mehra, of Oakville, also paid the same company $610 in advance to clear their driveway for the season. They said the company also just came once to clear snow in December and then never came back.

“After that there has been nothing,” said Pankaj Mehra.

Ritu Mehra added, “We feel cheated, and we did it because we thought they would come by and help us. My husband can’t shovel the snow because he has a heart condition, and I have a problem with my back.”

Snow Pros, with a Vaughan address, has been given a failing grade of “F” on the Better Business Bureau’s website.

CTV News contacted the company by phone but was unable to leave a message.

We also emailed the company but did not get a response.

There is another company called Snow Pros Plowing Services in Vaughan, which told CTV News it is getting calls from angry customers, but it says it has nothing to do with the other company, which is using a name that sounds similar to their company name.

The company told CTV News in a phone call, “We are not affiliated with a company going by Snow Pros... We’ve been in business over ten years and are clearing snow for our customers.”

Eve told CTV News the person who did show up once to clear her driveway also said that he and other employees had not been paid for the work they had done for the company.

Both families said they want refunds, but the company is not responding.

The Mehras said they will have to find someone else to clear their driveway.

“We would rather pay someone more to come and do our snow because (we) can’t do it right now,” said Ritu Mehra.

Pankaj also told CTV News in the fine print on the contract it states it will automatically renew next year so he is concerned he could be charged again for the snow removal service in the fall.
