A TTC employee and a customer have been charged after they allegedly stabbed each other at a downtown subway station last week. Toronto police said a call came in for a stabbing at TMU Station, formerly named Dundas Station, on the afternoon of Nov. 26. Police initially told reporters that only a TTC employee was stabbed and that a male was subsequently arrested. However, in a news release on Saturday, investigators provided more details about what allegedly transpired. They said it began with a verbal altercation between a female TTC employee and a male customer near the fare wickets inside the station. The two assaulted each other, and a TTC employee allegedly ended up stabbing the customer with a knife. They were then separated, but police allege the customer returned and stabbed the TTC employee with a knife. Both were later taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said the two were not known to each other. The customer, who police identified as 42-year-old Gregory Benard, was arrested that same day and charged with three counts of assault and one count each of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon and aggravated assault. The TTC employee, identified as 40-year-old Rushell Tucker, was arrested on Friday as a result of the investigation. She has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon and aggravated assault and obstructing police. In a statement, the TTC said it was aware of the charges but won’t comment further as the matter is now before the courts.
