Toronto police are asking the public for help identifying a suspect who, without provocation, allegedly beat a man with a “baton-like” weapon in a North York parking lot on Tuesday. Officers were called to an underground lot at Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue at 8:30 a.m. for an assault call, police said in a news release issued Friday. Investigators said the adult male victim was in the parking lot, housed inside a commercial building in the area, when he approached an elevator and was “confronted” by the suspect. “The unknown suspect, without provocation, began to assault the victim with a baton-like weapon,” police said. “The suspect continued to assault the victim with a weapon and by kicking him.” A bystander rendered assistance to the victim after hearing the commotion, police said, and the suspect, described as a six-foot-two man in his 50s or 60s, fled the scene on foot. The victim was hospitalized and sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
