Montreal man wanted for alleged credit card fraud, posing as bank employee

Toronto police are seeking Madjid Benmaou, 20, of Montreal for multiple charges involving alleged credit card fraud and posing as a bank employee.

Toronto police are searching for a Montreal man who has been allegedly posing as a bank employee and collecting credit card information from victims.

In a release on Thursday, police said it is alleged that on Oct. 1, 2025, a victim received a call from the male suspect, who told the victim he was a bank employee.

The man said the victim’s credit card had been compromised and arranged for a courier to attend the victim’s address and collect their card.

The man then received the credit card from the supposed courier and used it to make $11,000 worth of purchases at a Mississauga jewelry store.

Police said on a separate occasion, Oct. 3, the suspect allegedly called a second victim and once again pretended to be a bank employee and claim the victim’s credit card had been compromised.

Similarly, the suspect collected the victim’s card via a courier and then visited a jewelry store in Mississauga and made purchases totalling $14,000.

Investigators have identified the suspect as Madjid Benmaou, 20, of Montreal.

He is wanted for two counts of false pretences, four counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, three counts of unauthorized use of credit card data, and several other fraud-related charges.

Police describe the suspect as having a large build, black hair, and dark brown eyes.

He has connections to both Quebec and Mississauga, according to police, and he is known to drive a black Dodge pick-up truck with Quebec licence plate “AKJ52Z.”
