Former NFL defensive end Marcus Jones defeated Mike Wessel on "The Ultimate Fighter," preventing coach Quinton (Rampage) Jackson's team from being shut out of the quarter-finals.

The six-foot-six, 260-pound Jones, a former first-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, submitted Wessel via armbar in the first round of the episode that aired Wednesday night. The six-foot, 260-pound Wessel is a UFC veteran, losing to Antoni Hardonk at UFC 92 in his lone appearance.

Despite the Jones win, coach Rashad Evans' team has dominated the reality TV show, sending seven of the eight heavyweights to the quarter-finals.

In the first quarter-final next week, Roy (Big Country) Nelson takes on Justin Wren.

The other quarter-finals pit Jones against Darill Schoonover, Brendan Schaub against John Madsen and James McSweeney against Matt Mitrione.

The TV show hinted of a return of Kimbo Slice, beaten earlier by Nelson. In teasing a future episode, the show cited Mitrione going to hospital.

The winner earns a contract to fight in the UFC.
