MONTREAL - After one radical makeover and four years on the lam, a reputed mobster is finally under police custody.

Montreal police say they picked up Giuseppe De Vito just before noon Monday.

He has been so reclusive these last few years that he wasn't even seen at the funeral of his own children: De Vito's wife is accused of murdering their two girls while he was in hiding.

A police spokesman says this week's arrest came after a tip to the organized crime division.

A warrant for De Vito's arrest was issued by the RCMP after a massive police sweep known as Operation Colisee in November 2006.

Scores of suspects were rounded up in that operation which involved hundreds of police officers, but De Vito went missing. He was wanted on charges related to cocaine-trafficking and gangsterism.

Recently, the Mounties released images showing drastic changes in De Vito's appearance.

The once-rotund, long-haired suspected mobster appeared in a more recent police photo with a chiselled build, square jaw, goatee and a stylishly fitted tuque.

He was due to appear in court today to face drug-related charges.
