More than 400 athletes from 20 countries have descended on the southwestern Ontario city of Guelph for the 7th World Dwarf Games.

“It’s really cool and I’m really excited to see what the week's going to bring,” Elizabeth Duff, an athlete with Team Canada, told CTV Kitchener.

“When I do terrible against my average friends, it’s really refreshing to come and dominate against my little people compatriots,” Team U.S.A. competitor Ben Wolika said.

The opening ceremony was scheduled for Friday night at the University of Guelph. Events, which include badminton, soccer, basketball, floor hockey and power lifting, will run from Aug. 5 to 12. Competitors range in age from six to their 60s.

The World Dwarf Games have been held every four years since 1993. People with dwarfism of all ages and abilities are invited to compete in the events.
