A San Jose Sharks fan says she was punched in the face Thursday night in Edmonton by Oilers fans after the two teams faced off.

Paulina Wojtowicz lives in Edmonton but cheers for the San Jose Sharks and decided to go out with friends to watch the two teams play each other in Game 5 of the NHL playoffs on Thursday. She says after the game she went outside to wait for a cab and a couple approached her.

The couple started to bother her about her Sharks jersey, asking her why she wasn’t representing the city, she told CTV Edmonton. Wojtowicz says the next thing she knew, the situation had escalated and she was punched in the face.

“What makes people think that people from out of town are going to want to come to Edmonton if they do this to people that live here?” said Wojtowicz.

Pictures show Wojtowicz with blood dripping from her nose and blood splattered over her teal Patrick Marleau jersey after the alleged incident.

Wojtowicz posted the pictures to her Instagram which were shared on Facebook by her sister-in-law. She has received support from fans of various teams, including Oilers fans.

Edmonton police are currently investigating the incident.
