NICOSIA, Cyprus - About 200 family members, friends and former colleagues have attended a one-year memorial service at the gravesite of former Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos, one day after tomb raiders stole his body.

Police are combing the island for the tomb raiders but so far have no clear leads, or motive as to the abduction of the body. They have removed the empty coffin and placed wooden planks inside the grave at the village of Deftera, just outside the Cypriot capital.

The desecration of Papadopoulos' gravesite early Friday has provoked emotional reactions on the divided island and has put pressure on authorities to find the culprits quickly.

Papadopoulos was president of Cyprus from 2003-2008, when he was defeated at the polls.
