BELGRADE, Serbia - Ratko Mladic's Serbian lawyer says the war crimes suspect had hernia surgery and is now feeling fine at the war crimes detention unit in the Netherlands.

Milos Saljic said Thursday Mladic underwent the operation on Wednesday. He gave no other details of the surgery.

Saljic says, "he called me today saying he's feeling fine."

A spokeswoman for the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague, Nerma Jelacic, refused to give details of Mladic's health or where the surgery was performed, citing the court's privacy rules.

The wartime Bosnian Serb army commander was arrested in Serbia in May after 16 years as a fugitive and extradited to the tribunal where he faces genocide charges.
