La Ronge Ice Wolves part ways with head coach

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s (SJHL) La Ronge Ice Wolves are now searching for a new head coach, announcing it has mutually agreed to part ways with head coach and general manager Kevin Kaminski.

“We want to take a moment to express our gratitude for the time spent together as a team and the invaluable contributions of Coach Kevin Kaminski. After thoughtful discussions, we have mutually decided to part ways,” the team said in a social media post.

“This decision comes as we look forward to new opportunities and a fresh direction. We appreciate Coach Kaminski’s dedication, passion, and leadership shown during his time with us and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

‘Killer’ Kaminski served in the position for six seasons in La Ronge, being named the SJHL Coach of the Year in his first year with the club back in 2020.

Between 2019 and 2026, Kaminski led the Ice Wolves to a 146-158-16-14 record, making three postseason appearances.

However, La Ronge has not been in the playoffs since 2023.

Prior to joining the Ice Wolves, Kaminski spent 19 seasons coaching various pro and junior teams throughout America.

The Churchbridge, Sask. product played 139 games in the NHL between 1988 and 1997 with the Minnesota North Stars, Quebec Nordiques and Washington Capitals. Prior to his pro career, Kaminski recorded 240 points and 823 penalty minutes in 183 games with the WHL’s Saskatoon Blades.

In February, it was made public he took a personal leave and remained away from the team the remainder of the 2026 regular season.

“As a team, we remain committed to our goals and excited about what lies ahead. Thank you for your support as we embark on this journey together,” the Wolves’ post read.
