Saskatoon police were busy this weekend, with patrol officers in pursuit of stolen vehicles Friday and Saturday night, and three suspects still at large after bear mace was sprayed inside a city bus on Sunday. Friday around 11 p.m. police were following up on a report of a stolen vehicle when they found it in a parking lot near the Westgate Plaza, according to a Saskatoon Police Service news release. Police say the suspect initially complied with direction from the patrol officers, then got back in the vehicle and fled. He was stopped with the aid of a spike belt and arrested in another 22nd Street West parking lot east of the original scene, near Avenue I North. Police believe the 20-year-old man, who now faces charges from auto theft to evading police and breach of court conditions, was intoxicated at the time. A 35-year-old woman is also facing charges related to vehicle theft, this one from an incident on Saturday night. Police say around 10 p.m. Oct. 24, patrol officers spotted a vehicle on Confederation Drive that had fled police multiple times over the week. Officers tried to conduct a traffic stop, but police say the vehicle fled. Again the spike belt was deployed, but the driver pushed the vehicle onward, rims rolling on asphalt, until it was finally stopped at 31stt Street West and Avenue F North. The driver, a 35-year-old woman, faces charges including dangerous driving, evading police, impersonation, and breach of conditions. On Sunday, police say a woman discharged bear spray on a city bus after a failed attempt to steal a sweater from another passenger. The incident went down around Vanier Crescent and Diefenbaker Drive, where officers were called around 8:30 p.m. Police say a female and two males boarded the bus, and the woman tried to steal a sweater from another passenger before spraying the bear mace and fleeing the scene. The three suspects are still at large. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Saskatoon police.
