An overdose alert has been issued for Saskatoon after the city recorded 104 overdoses and two deaths in just a week. According to the alert issued Wednesday evening, the spike happened between Nov. 11 and Nov. 18, and two people died on Nov. 17. The Saskatchewan Ministry of Health says many patients needed multiple doses of naloxone, also called Narcan, but the antidote did not always work. According to the alert, the substances involved are unknown but may contain opioids and other harmful ingredients. The health ministry warns that dangerous drugs are circulating in the city and that there is a high risk of overdose and death. The alert will stay in effect until Nov. 26.
