The Saskatchewan Rattlers basketball team has announced President Lee Genier has concluded his tenure with the team. Canadian Basketball Ventures L.P. (CBV), the corporate entity that owns the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) team based in Saskatoon, announced the news Tuesday. “Lee has been pivotal in shaping the Rattlers since the CEBL’s inception,” the team said in a press release. This concludes Genier’s second term heading up the Rattlers. He served as president for the inaugural season, when the team won its only CEBL Championship. He departed the club in 2020 and returned in February 2024 for a second stint. “His leadership, vision and unwavering dedication have helped build a strong foundation for professional basketball in Saskatchewan, and have fostered meaningful connections with fans and the broader Saskatoon community,” the team said. Genier says he’s proud of what he’s been able to accomplish with the Rattlers. “It’s been an incredible honour to lead the Saskatchewan Rattlers, and contribute to the growth of the CEBL,” he added. “I look forward to cheering on the team as it continues to thrive.” Prior to joining the Rattlers in 2018, Genier spent 19 years with the Canadian Football League’s Calgary Stampeders, where he won three Grey Cups. He also spent two years running the Saskatchewan Rush of the National Lacrosse League, winning one championship.
