Sask. RCMP arrest 19-year-old suspect in Montreal Lake homicide

Saskatchewan RCMP have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a homicide on Montreal Lake Cree Nation.

Trent Thomas John Bird was arrested in Prince Albert by RCMP on Wednesday.

He was wanted for manslaughter with a firearm in connection to the June 2 death of 24-year-old Steven Beatty on the northern Saskatchewan First Nation.

He is scheduled to make his first appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on June 4.

Shortly after 1 a.m. on June 1, officers responded to a report of an injured man at a home at the community where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

RCMP initially considered the death suspicious, and the homicide unit took over the investigation.

RCMP say the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about Bird is asked to contact police.

Montreal Lake Cree Nation is located about 106 kilometres north of Prince Albert.
