Power has been restored to communities in northeastern Saskatchewan after a severe weekend storm left thousands without electricity. Fallen trees and high winds brought down power lines, causing widespread outages. SaskPower says about 50,000 customers were affected, making it the largest power outage in Saskatchewan in four years. The first major outage happened Saturday evening, affecting a large area, including Prince Albert, Shellbrook, Spiritwood, Candle Lake and Hudson Bay, SaskPower said. The village of Aylsham, about 35 kilometres southeast of Nipawin, declared a local state of emergency Tuesday due to prolonged power outages. SaskPower says electricity had been restored to all communities in northeastern Saskatchewan by late Tuesday afternoon.
