Saskatchewan RCMP have arrested one man and are searching for another after an assault and firearm incident on the Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation. Officers were called to a home around 1:30 a.m. Jan. 12 for a report of an armed person, Saskatchewan RCMP said in a news release Thursday. Police say two men had assaulted someone inside the residence. The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening. RCMP say one of the suspects threatened people in the home with a gun and fired the weapon. No injuries were reported from the shot. With help from the RCMP drone team and dog services, officers arrested one suspect nearby. Police identified him as 34-year-old Byron Wahobin of Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation. Wahobin faces several charges, including reckless discharge of a firearm, pointing a firearm, uttering threats, assault, resisting a peace officer and multiple firearm possession offences. He appeared in North Battleford provincial court Jan. 13. RCMP say the second suspect, 35-year-old Lonnie Moosomin, has been charged with assault. A warrant has been issued for his arrest and police are asking the public to help locate him. Moosomin is described as five-feet seven inches tall, weighing about132 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. Police say do not approach Moosomin if you see him. Instead, contact the police.
