Carrot River RCMP have charged a 24‑year‑old man with attempted murder after a shooting on Red Earth Cree Nation on Tuesday. RCMP officers from Carrot River and Nipawin were called to the northeast Saskatchewan community around 5 p.m. on March 31 to respond to a shooting, Saskatchewan RCMP said in a news release. Arriving officers found a man with serious injuries who was taken to hospital for treatment. RCMP say an altercation occurred between two men outside a home on Red Earth Cree Nation, a reserve located about 225 kilometres northeast of Prince Albert. During the incident, one man allegedly fired a gun, injuring the other before fleeing on foot. A suspect was arrested later that evening on the reserve. Police have charged Floyd Nawakayas, 24, of Red Earth Cree Nation with attempted murder, weapons possession contrary to order, unauthorized possession of a firearm and discharging a firearm with intent. Nawakayas appeared in Nipawin court on April 1 and is scheduled to appear next in Carrot River on April 9.
