The Weyburn General Hospital celebrated a grand opening on Friday, with the facility ready to open to patients on Nov. 1. Members from the provincial government, the Saskatchewan Health Authority and Weyburn District Hospital Foundation marked the grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday. The new facility has 25 private acute care rooms, each with a ceiling lift and larger accessible washroom, 10 inpatient health beds, an operating theatre, a larger modern emergency department and trauma care spaces, lab and medical imaging spaces, an onsite EMS base with a heliport, ambulatory and allied health services, as well as offices. “This facility represents an investment in the long-term health and well-being of the region, by providing modern spaces and the flexibility needed to support the evolving models of care and change community needs over time,” said Minister of SaskBuilds and Procurement Sean Wilson. The province invested more than $134 million to the project. The Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation also put forth $30 million for the project. A portion of these funds have gone towards the construction, furniture and fixtures. “It’s about the families who will find comfort and support during some of life’s most challenging moments. It’s about the physicians, staff, and volunteers who will come through these doors every day, focused on delivering safe, compassionate, high quality care,” said Andrew Will, the CEO of the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Equipment is still being moved from the old hospital. Residents from the area will have the opportunity to take a tour of the facility on Oct 24.
