A Saskatchewan company has been fined $8,000 after a worker was seriously hurt from an improperly secured ladder. The incident happened on May 10, 2024, in Wadena when a worker fell from a ladder and onto a concrete floor while they were replacing torsion springs on an overhead door. The company in question is Mallard Diversified Services Inc, a Wadena-based non-profit that provides support to adults with intellectual disabilities. On July 22, Mallard pleaded guilty to violating Saskatchewan’s Occupational Health and Safety Regulations in Wynyard Provincial Court. The company was charged with failing to ensure that a portable ladder was secured against accidental movement during use, resulting in a serious injury of a worker. The court imposed a $5,714.29 fine plus a $2,285.71 victim fine surcharge, totalling $8,000.
