Vaughn Solomon Schofield, who served as Saskatchewan’s 21st lieutenant governor, has died. She was 82. In an announcement Thursday, the province revealed Solomon Schofield passed away on April 8 in Regina after a brief stay in the hospital. “I offer deep condolences to her family and friends, and to the thousands of Saskatchewan residents the former Lieutenant Governor touched during her time in office,” said Lieutenant Governor Bernadette McIntyre in news release. “Vaughn had a strong background in community work and volunteer service, and her dedicated support of the military was evident throughout her time in office.” Before serving as Saskatchewan’s 21st lieutenant governor from 2012 to 2018, Solomon Schofield was appointed as the Provincial Chair of the Canadian Forces Liaison Council and served as Honorary Colonel of 10th Field Artillery Regiment. In 2013, Solomon Schofield established the Lieutenant Governor’s Military Service Pin, which have been awarded to more than 8,000 acting or former military members living in Saskatchewan. “Vaughn Solomon Schofield was a wonderful embodiment of the Saskatchewan spirit,” Premier Scott Moe said in separate statement. “She was lieutenant governor when I became premier and I saw her dedication to the people of our province firsthand on many occasions. In particular, her decades-long commitment to our armed forces was steadfast and she will be missed by all who knew her.” In 2025, the late lieutenant governor became an Honorary Colonel of 15 Wing Moose Jaw. “I remember Vaughn’s friendly smile and cheery greeting when we would run into each other over the summer in her beloved Regina Beach,” McIntyre said in her statement. “I was thrilled to be on hand to see Vaughn receive an Honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Regina last year, for which she was deservedly proud.” Solomon Schofield was born in Regina and earned a degree in Fashion Merchandising degree at Ray-Vogue School in Chicago. Most recently, she spent much of her time living in Regina Beach. She was married to the late Gordon Schofield, with whom she shared two children. “Krista and I join Their Honours, the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan Bernadette McIntyre and Mr. Rich McIntyre, in offering our condolences to Ms. Solomon Schofield’s family, including her daughter Whitney, son George, and four grandchildren,” Moe added. Books of condolence will be offered in the main lobby of the Legislative Building and at Government House. Those wishing to pay their respects online can do so at the lieutenant governor’s website. Flags across the province will be placed at half-mast until sunset on the day of the funeral. The province says details on the service will be announced at a later date. 15 Wing Moose Jaw pays tribute On Thursday afternoon, 15 Wing Moose Jaw issued a news release offering its deepest condolences to the departed Honorary Colonel. “Throughout her distinguished career of public service, Honorary Colonel Solomon Schofield exemplified the core values of the Canadian Armed Forces with humility, professionalism, and unwavering dedication,” Wing 15 wrote. “Her steadfast support of the Saskatchewan military community was exemplary, and she had a vital role in strengthening the enduring relationship between the Canadian Armed Forces and the people of Saskatchewan.” The Canadian Forces base said Solomon Schofield was a source of “guidance and inspiration” to its members. In honour of the late lieutenant governor’s memory, all flags at 15 Wing facilities in both Moose Jaw and Southport, Man. will be flown at half-mast.
