Those residing in Regina’s Glen Elm Mobile Home Community are facing yet more uncertainty – as some residents have received notice their water has been permanently shut off. “The letter told us that as of Monday, the water [and the] sewer to the unit would be shut off. The reasoning for it, is a catastrophic, ‘failure of the water and sewer line in the area,’” park resident Aaron Jepson told CTV News. The notices were sent to the residents of units B1 to B29 and C2 to C22. It comes just weeks ahead of the June 30 eviction deadline from park owners. In the letter, it offers apologies for the inconvenience and alternative services in the form of porta-potties and a water hose. Jepson said those have not been supplied yet. “If they have, I have no idea where they are. They never said a location. They weren’t very specific on the details, just like it’s pretty much just get out,” he added. Randall Edge, the president of the Glen Elm Retirement Community Residents Association, says residents are confused by the speed of the evictions from the park. “We just don’t understand the urgency. Why are our homes being destroyed?” he asked. “We have been here for 70 years. We pay our rent. Why are we destroying low-cost homes in the city? In a housing crisis? It just doesn’t make any sense.” Edge is among the several residents still remaining in the park. They formed the residents’ association to save their homes, while others have left. About 20 units within the community have already been demolished already. “It’s awful. We bought this place because it had been around for so long. It was a sense of stability. This place would be around for the future,” Jepson said. CTV News did reach out to Glen Elm Properties Ltd., for comment but did not receive a response back. In the notice letter, the community’s owner offered assistance with relocation plans for tenants – citing a “difficult transition period.”
