A second person has been arrested and charged in connection to a suspicious fire that destroyed a business in Leader, Sask. last October. Around 2:40 a.m. on Oct. 26, 2025, Leader RCMP received a report of a fire at a business on 1 Avenue in the community. Officers and firefighters responded to the scene but were unable to save the building. Through an investigation, Leader RCMP arrested a 50-year-old man from Calgary, Alta. on Jan. 29 and charged him with arson with intent to defraud, fraud over $5,000 and arson with disregard for human life. Further investigation led to the arrest of a second person, a 28-year-old man from Leader, Sask. on Sept. 16, 2026. in relation to the business fire. He is also charged in relation to the theft and arson of a commercial vehicle in Leader in November of last year, as well as a conspiracy to commit theft and arson on two commercial vehicles in the community in June and July of 2026. He is facing several charges in connection to the incidents, including conspiracy to commit arson for fraudulent purpose, break and enter and commit arson, conspiracy to commit theft of a motor vehicle, fraud over $5,000 and arson with disregard for human life. He is scheduled to appear in court in Leader on Thursday. RCMP say investigation continues. Leader is located about 388 kilometres northwest of Regina. With files from David Prisciak
