The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed national kicker Campbell Fair. Fair joins the Green and White after attending the Edmonton Elks’ 2025 training camp, having originally signed with the team in September of 2024. Wednesday’s announcement marks Fair’s second stint in Saskatchewan, previously having spent time on the Riders’ practice roster in 2023. The 25-year-old product from Oakville, Ont. played four collegiate seasons at the University of Ottawa from 2018-2022. He saw action in 28 games. The team said in a corresponding move, it has released offensive lineman Dre Doiron. Regarding what role Fair will be playing for the team, he says it’s wait and see at this point. “I haven’t been told much, I think they were waiting to see how I did over the next couple of days and then have a conversation with me. But I’m just happy to be here whether I play or not. I’m going to be ready either way,” he said. Riders head coach Corey Mace told CTV News that the decision to bring in Fair at this point in the season does not coincide with threatening current starter Brett Lauther’s job. “We looked at a few guys and just Fair’s resume and being around the league at a couple of training camps and has been behind some good kickers in his career to this point,” Mace explained. Lauther has struggled in 2025 with accuracy, going 22 for 33 for a 67 percent make rate. However, he doesn’t see the addition of Fair as competition. Lauther is embracing the opportunity to step into a mentorship role. “It wouldn’t matter if there were 100 people here that were kickers or zero, I’m not trying to kick better because there’s more people here. And it’s not really a competition with the kicking position, I think it’s always just you versus yourself,” Lauther said. According to Mace, Fair had an impressive first day of practice with the team, nailing a few field goals after a long journey from Toronto to Regina that involved stops in Buffalo, Newark and Denver due to the Air Canada strike. “Yeah, the kid had a long travel day, we put him in right off the plane to see what he can do. So, I thought he had a good day. Brett’s had a couple of good days as well, so it’s nice to have both,” Mace said. Mace added that he still anticipates that Lauther will still draw the start at placekicker against Calgary on Saturday.
