A 35-year-old Regina man is facing multiple charges after police responded to reports of a suspect allegedly waving a machete outside a business in the city’s northwest. According to the Regina Police Service, officers were called at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29, after receiving multiple reports of an adult male carrying and waving a machete outside a business in the 4200 block of Rochdale Boulevard. Police say one caller reported being threatened by the suspect, who allegedly told the individual he would stab him, before leaving the area in a taxi accompanied by a female. Officers located the taxi in the area of Britton Bay and conducted a traffic stop. The male suspect and female passenger exited the vehicle and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. A search following the arrest allegedly uncovered a machete tucked into the waistband of the suspect’s shorts. The suspect is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, two counts of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He’s scheduled to make his first appearance in Regina Provincial Court on July 9.
