Group of Indigenous youth in Regina for RCMP youth leadership workshop

A group of 13 Indigenous youth from across Canada are in Regina taking part in an RCMP youth leadership workshop this week.

The workshop is taking place from March 9 to 15 at Depot Division, the RCMP’s training academy in Regina.

As part of the workshop, participants will be accompanied by an RCMP mentor to give them an opportunity to learn how they can make their communities safer.

Each person taking part in the workshop will develop an action plan to help address a youth crime or victimization issue and will implement their plan with their local RCMP detachment upon returning to their community.

Interactive sessions on topics such as mental health, bullying, online safety, drug-impaired driving, substance use, and healthy relationships will also be featured during the workshop.

Past participants taking part in the program have organized activities like community fishing trips and safe hobbies, as well as educational sessions to increase awareness around youth crime issues, the RCMP said.

“Youth voices matter to the RCMP. We value their insights and welcome the chance to collaborate on community issues. By learning from young people, we can better address their concerns and foster positive change together,” RCMP National Youth Services said.
