Former U of R Ram remains suspended despite staying of drug charges, school says

A former University of Regina Ram remains ineligible to play despite the staying of his drug charges, the school said in an update Wednesday.

Defensive back Michael Jourdan was charged in February 2025 following a large drug bust by the Regina Police Service (RPS).

Jourdan faced charges including possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, trafficking a controlled substance, commissioning an offence for a criminal organization, and possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000.

At the time, the school’s athletics department immediately suspended him.

In November, the Crown issued a stay of proceedings against Jourdan, citing continuous assessment of, “reasonable prospect of conviction and public interest in proceeding with the prosecution.”

In a response Wednesday to CTV News, a spokesperson for the university says, “Michael’s suspension from the Rams remains in place.”

A total of five people were arrested and charged on the night of Feb. 20-21, 2025, following the execution of eight search warrants across Regina and the communities of Alameda and Frobisher.

More than seven kilograms of fentanyl, nearly half a kilogram of cocaine, $151,425 in cash, two weapons and several vehicles were seized during the bust, which was valued at $1.5 million.

In a news conference on Feb. 24, 2025, Insp. Gary Giroux claimed the bust represented “75,000 doses at the street level” being seized.

Jourdan was charged alongside four others: Emmanuel Ramadan Bashir, Morteza Ahadi, Randal Lee Racette and Tarick Polius, who also played for the Rams. The five accused faced a combined 34 criminal charges.

The matters of all others who were charged are still before the courts.
