A weekly Muslim call to prayer broadcast at Regina City Jamia Masjid is drawing both support and opposition. This was the second Friday in a row that the Mosque broadcast a call to prayer, this time met with someone on the sidewalk shouting Christian prayers in response. The public display of faith has sparked a debate over whether the call to prayer should be heard outside the mosque. Some support the expression of faith while others feel it should be kept within the walls of the Mosque. It has sparked a petition drive to city council. “Christians don’t push our religion in other people’s faces so I don’t think that the Muslim call to prayer should be forced on us that we have to listen to it,” said petition organizer Amanda Svedahl. The mosque welcomes the faith discussion taking place on its street corner. “We don’t see any problem so they also have a right to believe what they want to believe and also share with others,” said Director of the Regina City Jamia Masjid M Anisur Rahaman.
