Saskatchewan NDP leader Carla Beck promised labour law changes in her address to the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour (SFL) on the final day of its convention in Regina. Beck says essential services legislation would be repealed, employers would be forbidden from hiring replacement workers during labour disputes, and the minimum wage would be increased. The NDP say they would also make the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation a provincial statutory holiday. The federation also elected a new president Friday, with Marilynne MacFarlane replacing Lori Johb, who retired after serving eight years in the position. “Things aren’t getting easier for workers out there and we need to make sure that governments at all different levels whether it be municipal, city, provincial, they need to know how working people are feeling and those voices need to be heard and listened to,” MacFarlane said in her remarks. The NDP have launched a petition calling for Premier Scott Moe to address surgical wait times, health care worker safety, and to stop sending residents outside Saskatchewan for medical procedures.
