BEAUMONT, Alta. - RCMP say the driver of a pickup truck involved in a crash with a car that left three young men dead south of Edmonton was impaired from drinking alcohol.

The 28-year-old man is in critical but stable condition in hospital.

The men who died in the early Saturday morning crash near Beaumont have been identified as Bradley Arsenault and Kole Novak, both 18, of Beaumont; and Thaddeus Lake, 22, of Leduc.

Const. Jodi Heidinger says alcohol and speed were factors, but it is not clear who was responsible for the crash, and no charges have been laid.

She says police have not yet spoken to the pickup driver.

"We can confirm at this point that the individual in the Dodge Ram pickup was under the influence and that his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol.
