QUEBEC - Samples taken from about 2,100 Quebec breast-cancer sufferers will be re-examined to ensure the women are receiving proper treatment.

A committee of experts reporting to Health Minister Yves Bolduc says there's no evidence the initial tests were incorrect but it is recommending the new tests be done as a precautionary measure.

The tests would be done on samples already taken from women between April 1, 2008, and June 1, 2009, and who had a tumour of one centimetre or more.

The new testing will be completed before Dec. 31.

Dr. Andre Robidoux, the committee's chairman, says about 100 women may have to change their treatment based on the discrepancy percentage in this type of analysis.

Breast cancer is treated using hormone therapy or the drug Herceptin and strikes about 6,000 Quebec women annually.
