Former Conservative MP Eve Adams announced Wednesday that she will seek the Liberal nomination in the Toronto riding of Eglinton-Lawrence.

Adams will be running against lawyer Marco Mendicino, who has already been campaigning for the Liberal nomination.

Here are some facts about the riding, which is located just north of the city's downtown core (Source Statistics Canada 2011 Census Profile):

  • Current MP: Federal Finance Minister and Conservative MP Joe Oliver
  • Population: 113,150
  • Primary languages spoken: About 80 per cent of census respondents in the riding listed English as the language they speak most often at home, and 20 per cent listed a non-official language as the one they speak most often at home.
  • Voting history: The riding has voted Liberal in every single federal election since 1979, before Oliver took the riding in 2011 with 46 per cent of the votes, beating Liberal Joe Volpe. Volpe had represented the riding from 1988 to 2011.
