Police were sent away for the second day in hopes of getting more information from Tiger Woods after his bizarre car crash.

Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson Sgt. Kim Montes said Woods is not required to talk to troopers in a traffic accident, only to provide them with his licence, insurance and registration.

"It is unusual that we haven't gotten a statement," she said. "This just delays us to getting closer to the completion of the investigation. We'll work with them. The investigation will continue no matter what."

Florida police say Woods' wife smashed a window on the Cadillac SUV he was driving after it struck a fire hydrant and then a tree after he pulled out of the driveway at his Florida mansion at about 2:30 a.m. on Friday morning.

A local police chief said Woods' wife, Elin, then smashed the back window of the vehicle, apparently to get him out. When police arrived on the scene, Woods was lying on the ground with Elin standing over him.

"She was frantic, upset," Windermere police chief Daniel Saylor told the Associated Press Friday night.

"She supposedly got him out and laid him on the ground," he said. "He was in and out of consciousness when my guys got there."

Saylor added that Woods was "mumbling, but didn't say anything coherent" when police arrived.

Audio tapes of the 911 call reporting the crash could be released as early as Sunday.

Woods had cuts on his lips and blood in his mouth, Saylor said. An ambulance took the 33-year-old PGA star to hospital.

A spokesperson for Woods said he was released from hospital in good condition.

Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, the Florida Highway Patrol said, but an investigation is underway and police say charges could be laid.

Even though Woods is a world-famous athlete, he has rarely faced private scrutiny.

His wife won nearly $200,000 in a settlement with an Irish magazine that published a fake nude photo of her. And Woods was awarded $1.6 million from a lawsuit against the builder of his yacht, who used his name and photos of the boat to promote his business.

Woods was scheduled to host his annual Chevron World Challenge tournament to benefit the Tiger Woods Foundation, among other charities on Dec. 3 in California. It is unclear as of right now if he will play or even attend that event.

He won his last tournament, the JBWere masters, in Melbourne, Australia, on November 15.

The couple's $2.4 million home is located in a walled community known as Isleworth that's set on a golf course designed by Arnold Palmer, and has its own security force. A number of executives, sports stars and celebrities live there.
