A skier killed in a British Columbia avalanche last Friday was a former Canadian who was living in Dubai, according to police.

Ronald Greg Sheardown was heli-skiing with 11 others in the Selkirk Mountains near Revelstoke, when he and three other skiers were caught in a massive snowslide.

While three of the skiers were pulled uninjured from the snow, RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said Sheardown was unresponsive when located.

The 45-year-old man was pronounced dead on arrival at the Queen Victoria Hospital in Revelstoke, Moskaluk said.

In a news release issued Sunday, local RCMP identified Sheardown as a Dubai resident who was raised near Stouffville, Ontario.

Sheardown was in the United Arab Emirates working for the Middle East operations of construction material supplier Lafarge, his brother-in-law Henry Tanzos said in an email to CTV News.

He leaves behind a wife and three sons, Tanzos added.

Sheardown is the second person to be killed on B.C.'s slopes over the last three days.

On Thursday, 30-year-old Duncan MacKenzie, a long-time ski patroller, was killed in a snowslide east of Pemberton, B.C.

The Canadian Avalanche Centre has been warning that mild temperatures have created heightened avalanche risks throughout British Columbia.
