The mayor of Brockville says he’s recovering at home after suffering from a stroke last week. “Early in the morning of August 12, I had a medical emergency that I now know was a mild stroke,” Matt Wren said in a post to social media on Wednesday. “Thankfully, I have only minor physical impacts, and no cognitive impacts at all. I will make a full recovery. I am recuperating at home with my family, and I’m feeling great and grateful.” Wren says he remains capable in his duties as mayor and is “committed to continuing to serve our community to the end of my term.” “I plan to reduce my schedule just a little and attend few events than usual for my health. Otherwise, the business of the city carries on as usual, and I remain in regular contact with our city manager and senior staff.” Wren announced earlier this year that he would not seek re-election this fall. He served four years as a councillor before being elected mayor of Brockville in 2022. Wren says he is thankful for those who came to his assistance, including his family, paramedics and the Brockville General Hospital. “We are incredibly fortunate to have such an excellent hospital in our community. This experienced showed me firsthand the depths of compassion and professionalism of the remarkable individuals who work there serving our community every day,” Wren said.
