A 39-year-old Toronto woman is facing charges in connection with an incident that resulted in injuries to a police officer in Clarence-Rockland. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a report of an unwanted person on a property just before 12 p.m. on Thursday. Police say the complainant reported an unknown woman had driven onto the property “multiple times, causing concern for the complainant’s safety.” The caller also said the woman appeared to be consuming alcohol. Officers located the woman and the vehicle a short time later. “During the interaction, the driver reversed her vehicle into a police cruiser before fleeing the area,” the OPP said. “During the incident, a Russell County OPP officer sustained injuries and was transported to hospital for assessment and treatment.” Officers with the OPP’s Hawkesbury detachment located the vehicle in Alfred-Plantagenet Township and the driver was arrested. “Officers observed signs of alcohol consumption and an Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand was made. The accused allegedly refused to provide a breath sample as required by law,” the OPP said. The woman is facing five charges, including assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and dangerous operation of a vehicle. Police say the investigation into the incidents continues. Anyone with information can contact the Russell County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
