The City of Ottawa saw a spike in the number of drivers caught running red lights at intersections during the month of January. Statistics released by the City of Ottawa shows 3,509 tickets were issued through Ottawa’s red light camera program in January, up from 2,818 tickets in January 2025 and 3,256 tickets during the first month of 2024. Ottawa has 85 red light cameras at intersections across the city, including three on King Edward Avenue. The camera on King Edward Avenue northbound at St. Andrew Street caught 227 drivers running red lights in January, while the camera on King Edward Avenue at St. Patrick Street issued 15 tickets and the camera on King Edward at Besserer Street caught 119 drivers running red lights. The camera on Kent Street at Arlington Avenue was Ottawa’s second-busiest red light camera in January, with 124 tickets issued to drivers running red lights. A total of 113 tickets were issued to drivers caught by the camera running a red light at Wellington Street at Bay Street. The camera on Wellington Street eastbound at Bay Street was Ottawa’s busiest red light camera in 2025, with 2,226 tickets to drivers during the year. The fine for being caught running a red light by the red light camera is $325. The ticket for running the red light is issued to the registered owner of the vehicle, regardless of who is driving the car at the time of the alleged offence.
