Ontario Provincial Police say a teenager who was struck by a vehicle while cycling in Petawawa last week has died and the driver involved is facing charges. The 17-year-old cyclist was hit on Industrial Avenue in Petawawa at around 9:10 p.m. on Oct. 29. The teenager was airlifted to Ottawa with life-threatening injuries. On Monday, OPP said the cyclist had died. The person’s identity was not released. OPP say Skyler Fischer, 19, of Petawawa, has been charged with operation while impaired by drugs, operation causing death, driving with cannabis readily available, and driving with a speed measuring warning device. According to the Highway Traffic Act, a “speed measuring warning device” means any device or equipment designed or intended for use in a motor vehicle to warn the driver of the presence of speed measuring equipment in the vicinity and includes any device or equipment designed or intended for use in a motor vehicle to interfere with the effective operation of speed measuring equipment. The accused’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days. The accused was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody.
