The sunny stretch in Ottawa is ending, with showers and heavy rain expected Tuesday and through the rest of the week. Environment Canada has issued a yellow warning - rainfall, upgrading a special weather statement issued earlier in the day. Ottawa could see between 30 to 50 mm of rain starting Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning. Environment Canada says showers will move through the area Tuesday afternoon but significant rain is not expected. A second system on Wednesday will bring “widespread” rainfall. “The ground, already near saturation, has little ability to absorb further rainfall,” the warning issued Tuesday afternoon says. The forecaster says water will likely pool on road and low-lying areas. Yellow alerts are issued when weather impacts are moderate, but can still cause some damage or disruption. The forecast for Ottawa calls for a high of 18 C on Tuesday, with showers beginning in the afternoon. Overnight, expect a 40 per cent chance of showers and a low of 11 C. Wednesday’s forecast is cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers and a high of 14 C, followed by more showers Wednesday night. Thursday could also see showers, with a cooler high of just 7 C. Friday’s outlook is cloudy, followed by cloudy weekends with a chance of more showers.
