Sens recall Yakemchuk, Donovan from Belleville after defensemen sidelined in New York

The Ottawa Senators have recalled two players from the AHL after a pair of injuries Monday night in New York.

Thomas Chabot and Lassi Thomson were both injured in the Sens’ 2-1 victory over the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Head coach Travis Green has suggested the two could be out “for a while.”

As a result, the Senators have called up Jorian Donovan and Carter Yakemchuk from Belleville.

Yakemchuk was selected seventh overall in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. He has played 50 games with the Belleville Senators so far this season, scoring 10 goals and getting 26 assists.

Donovan has played two seasons with Belleville and has had four goals and 17 assists in 58 games this season.

“Donovan’s father, Shean, spent the final three seasons of his NHL career with the Senators, from 2007 to 2010. The Donovans could become the first father-son duo to play for the Senators,” the team said in a news release on Tuesday.

This move will mark the NHL debuts for both Donovan and Yakemchuk when they hit the ice, the Senators say.

The Senators are taking a three-game winning streak to Detroit Tuesday night to face the Red Wings.
