The Ottawa Senators say playoff tickets will go on sale to the general public later this week, as the club prepares for a playoff appearance for the second straight spring. The Senators clinched a playoff spot on Saturday night and will head into the playoffs as one of the two wildcard teams in the eastern conference. Senators President and CEO Cyril Leeder told CTV News at Six anchor Patricia Boal that tickets for the first round of the playoffs will go on sale for season ticket holders on Thursday, and to Sens Insiders and the general public on Friday. “We are going to go out to the public with tickets available for sale, and they’ll go out Thursday to season seat members (who) can buy additional individual game tickets, and on Friday, Sens Insiders and the general public will be able to buy tickets for this year’s playoffs,” Leeder said. “We were working through that today to make sure we could get through all of our inbound activity from our existing season seat members. And we’re working through that pretty quickly. So, it’ll be Thursday to season seat members, again, at individual games, and then on Friday, Sens Insiders and the general public will have a chance to buy playoff tickets.” Leeder told TSN Mornings on TSN 1200 that the Senators already have about 12,000 tickets committed for the playoffs through season ticket holders, and the club expects that number to increase to 14,000 by the time they’re done with season ticket holders. “We sold a couple hundred (season tickets) over the weekend,” Leeder said about interest in the Senators after clinching a playoff spot. Leeder said the Senators have added 2,000 new season ticket holders since the playoffs last year, and the club is hoping to add to that base during this playoff run. The Senators will open the first round of the playoff series on the road, with games 3 and 4 to be held at Canadian Tire Centre. “We won’t know probably until Wednesday night who we’re playing, and then it won’t be until Thursday night, the timing of the game. So, that initial season seat member email may be going out to them before we know the dates of the games, but certainly on Friday morning, the general public and our Sens Insiders who want to buy tickets, they’ll know who we’re playing, and they’ll know when the games are being played,” Leeder said. Leeder says the Senators will have outdoor activities at Canadian Tire Centre for all games, including games on the road, and Sens Mile will return to downtown Ottawa. “Sens Mile, we’ll get that open this week with the city, we’ll be raising a flag, and we will be doing watch parties here at the building, outdoors with a big screen for the away games. And of course, our CIBC Plaza will be open for the away games and for the home games here at the CTC,” he said. Some restrictions on resale The Ottawa Senators will look to put “some restrictions” on the resale of tickets sold for playoff games. “We’re going to be selling extra tickets to our season seat members, and we want them to use them, not resell them,” Leeder said. “So, when you’re giving them the extra tickets, you really want to make sure those are for personal use or for their family and people that they know and not being resold.” The Senators could face the Carolina Hurricanes, Buffalo Sabres, Tampa Bay Lightning or Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the playoffs. Sens Mile The Sens Mile will open on Elgin Street later this week, Leeder said. The popular bar and restaurant district in Centretown is a popular spot for Senators fans to watch games during the playoffs. Leeder said the city will install the Sens Mile signs later this week ahead of the playoffs.
