A Sandy Hill catholic church says it was targeted by an act of vandalism overnight Monday after its illuminated sign was intentionally knocked over. St. Joseph’s Church says parish staff found the sign at the corner of Wildbrod and Cumberland streets collapsed on a flower bed early Wednesday morning. “Both the nature of the damage to the sign and other evidence on our property point to vandalism,” the parish said in a post on Facebook. Staff say an electrician disconnected the electricity from the toppled sign and have moved it to a safe place. “The sign was designed by our late Parish Carpenter and Handyman, Dan Handfield. It may be possible to repair and reinstall the sign and we are looking into that option,” the parish said. The church says they have filed a report with the Ottawa Police Service. In an email, Ottawa police said it did not find any reports associated with the incident.
