The City of Ottawa is advising drivers and OC Transpo riders that some downtown roads will be closed on Monday for the swearing in of Canada’s new governor general. Louise Arbour will become Canada’s 31st viceregal, replacing Mary Simon, Canada’s first Indigenous governor general. The city says drivers should plan alternate routes around downtown because the following roads will be closed between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Monday: Several OC Transpo buses will be detoured. Starting at 8 a.m., routes 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 20, 606, and 616 will be on detour from Rideau Street via the Mackenzie King Bridge. Arbour, 79, served on the Supreme Court of Canada and also previously served as UN human rights commissioner and chief prosecutor at The Hague. She met with King Charles III on Wednesday, ahead of her swearing in as his representative in Canada.
