Severe thunderstorms moving over eastern Ontario prompted warnings for parts of our region, as part of a new, more targeted weather alert system. Just after 4:20 p.m., a yellow warning - severe thunderstorm was issued for Orléans and Clarence-Rockland. A second severe thunderstorm warning was in effect for areas including Lac-des-Loups, Quyon, Fitzroy Provincial Park, Fitzroy Harbour, Sainte-Cécile-de-Masham, Constance Bay, and Wakefield. The warnings ended at around 5:20 p.m. The severe thunderstorm warnings were Environment Canada’s new, more targeted warnings for severe thunderstorms or tornadoes that it says are meant to cut down on “alert fatigue.” Environment Canada issued a yellow watch – severe thunderstorm for the Ottawa area Wednesday afternoon, warning “conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms.” “Scattered thunderstorms have developed and are expected to persist through the day,” the weather agency said. “When thunder roars, go indoors! The severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for all of eastern Ontario and the Ottawa Valley, in an area stretching from Kingston to Cornwall and west to Pembroke and Petawawa.
