The Royal Bank of Canada is set to close its Westboro branch this summer, the latest branch to close in Ottawa. RBC tells CTV News Ottawa the branch at 236 Richmond Road will close on Aug. 27. “Our RBC branch in Westboro is consolidating into our Carlingwood branch. We look forward to welcoming our clients at Carlingwood branch or the location most convenient for them,” a spokesperson for RBC said in a statement. “RBC’s branch network regularly evolves to meet the needs of our clients and how they are doing their banking. We regularly open new branches, invest in renovations and upgrades and relocate or consolidate others.” In a letter to clients of the RBC branch in Westboro, the bank notes many people “use online and mobile banking for our day-to-day transactions.” “As people in our community continue to evolve their banking habits, we’ve seen a reduction in visitors at many of our branches.” RBC is hosting a community information session at the branch at Carlingwood Shopping Centre on May 26. The Scotiabank branch at 388 Richmond Road closed in 2024 after being open for more than 100 years in Westboro. In February, it was announced the RBC branch on the campus of the University of Ottawa will close this spring as part of a planned redevelopment of the student centre. Last summer, Scotiabank closed its branch on the campus of Carleton University. Scotiabank is also closing its branch on Donald B. Munro Drive in Carp on Oct. 21, 2026. TD recently closed its branch in Blackburn Hamlet.
