Ontario Provincial Police say a 51-year-old Quebec man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of a man whose body was found in the Ottawa River one year ago. Robert Prevost, 63, of Clarence-Rockland, went missing in early 2025. He was found dead in the river near Dallaire Street in Clarence-Rockland that May. Police believe he was the victim of a homicide. On Friday, the OPP announced one person had been arrested in connection with Prevost’s death. Luc Decarie, 51, of St-Gabriel-de-Brandon, Que., is charged with first-degree murder, indignity to a body, and conspiracy to commit murder. The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in L’Orignal on Friday. “The OPP would like to thank the public for their continued support and patience as we conducted our investigation into the homicide of Robert Prevost,” said OPP Det. Insp. Jocelyn Sauvé. “The dedicated work of investigators and supporting units has led to charges being laid, holding an individual accountable for Robert’s death.” OPP say the investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Russell County detachment at 1-888-310-1122.
