The Ottawa Police Service is investigating after suspects robbed a jewelry store by driving into it with their vehicle last week. Police say four or five masked men rammed a stolen pickup through the store’s front entrance in the 1700 block of Bank Street shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Security camera video provided to CTV News by a nearby business that did not wish to be identified shows the incident unfold. The robbery lasted less than a minute, with the suspects entering the business to take items before running into a getaway silver SUV in the parking lot. A “quantity” of jewelry was stolen, according to police, but specifics were not provided. There were no injuries and an investigation is ongoing. No arrests or suspects have been announced. The incident follows a string of thefts targeting local jewelry stores in recent months. CTV News reported on a smash-and-grab at a Michael Hill location last month in Place d’Orléans Shopping Centre that was caught on camera. Ottawa police are also investigating an armed robbery at a jeweller in Bayshore Shopping Mall in April. A 29-year-old man was charged in that incident. Investigators are asking anyone in the area around 2:25 to 2:45 p.m. to check their dashcam or surveillance camera footage.
